Finding a job is the most important thing you can do once you arrive in town.  In fact, if you want to be safe, it’s probably better if you find a job before you ever leave the city you’re from.  There are tons of fantastic jobs and industries here, allowing you to chase your dreams regardless of where they lead you, but it’s also incredibly competitive.  If you’re not ready to prove yourself and aren’t sure you can set yourself apart from other applicants, it’s time to work on your resume some.

Endless Traffic Is An Understatement

If you don’t have a car, you won’t make it to San Diego.  A car is a must here.  Public transit is far behind other cities, and because the city itself is so sprawling, it can take you over an hour to drive from one end of it to the other, and that’s if you have your own vehicle in a bus that can take eons.  Having a car is expensive here, but it’s required to be able to work, shop, and enjoy life.

Expensive Cost of Living

Unfortunately, San Diego is one of the most expensive cities out there.  If you’re looking for apartments for rent in San Diego, you’ll realize they’re two to three times pricier than you’ll find in other major cities.  Because of this, it’s a good idea to consider looking for a roommate instead of trying to get your own place.  A roommate will be able to split prices with you and will give you a built-in social network, which is important if you’re from a different state or city.

The Weather Isn’t Always Perfect

Many say the weather in San Diego is flawless year-round, but the summers are continuing to get hotter.  In 2020 this city hit 100 degrees, and it only seems to go up from here.  If you hate hot weather and are just trying to get away from freezing winters, you should expect your air conditioning bill to be out of control when you first arrive.

It rarely rains here, which is nice if you love sunny weather!  Occasionally a stray storm will hit the area, but most residents here don’t even own umbrellas.  So although it can get hot and dry, it’s still usually gorgeous here.
